Applied Design
Since 1999 I have been working as a designer of various products. Those include several stylebooks, album artwork, websites and a thesis. If possible, within the scope of the assignment, I tried to apply personal concepts regarding composition and spatiality of image; mostly using algorithms to decide the graphical elements and proportion and to obtain above all clarity in the information. For me, for instance, this means a 'fast' website is imperative, when dealing with vast amounts of data. Therefore I took it upon me to learn CSS as a designers-tool not to be stuck with Flash built websites in order to reach the visual quality of my print product.
For the album artwork, which exceeds largely the amount of other outputs, I developed a style where when feasible, I discarded all common ideas on layout, texture and style. Most often I worked with cardboard and stencilled print and used unusual formats. I wanted them to be 'little presents' since nowadays it being so easy just to download the music, to buy a record or CD it has to have an extra feel to it.
